Where do good ideas come from?

December 5, 2010

Author and speaker Steven Johnson dives into this big question on TED.

Johnson challenges the conventional ideas on the inception of an idea — the apple dropping on your head moment, and says that innovation is not about the Eureka — it is about a group of people with different backgrounds and perspectives coming together to converse and share.

Unlike what the light bulb might suggest, an idea is not a single being.

An idea is a network.

A network that needs a loud, crazy, colorful, organic, and even a little messy space to be generated.  Hey, that sounds like our office meeting space! (read: living room in the dorm).

And we derive our inspiration from everywhere.  ChangeMachine is different not because it is a completely brand new idea — but because it is an innovation designed to improve what is already there.
